About the Kannada Language
Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ, [ˈkʌnːəɖa]) or Canarese, is a Dravidian language spoken in India predominantly in the state of Karnataka. Kannada, whose native speakers are called Kannadigas (Kannadigaru) and number roughly 38 million, is one of the 40 most spoken languages in the world. It is one of the scheduled languages of India and the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka. It is also spoken in neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, as well as by a significant number of people in the United Arab Emirates, United States, and other countries where Kannadigas have migrated. Kannada has a rich literary tradition dating back over a thousand years, with famous poets and writers such as Pampa, Ranna, and Kuvempu. The Kavirajamarga, written in the 9th century, is considered to be the earliest extant literary work in Kannada. The language also has a rich tradition in Folk literature, Yakshagana, and other performing arts. In terms of grammar, Kannada is an inflected language, meaning that the grammatical function of a word is indicated by its inflection, rather than by word order. It has a complex system of case markers and verb conjugations, as well as a rich system of particles that indicate various grammatical functions. Kannada script is called Kannada Lipi and it is one of the oldest scripts in the world, it is also considered as one of the most beautiful scripts among Indian scripts. In recent years, there has been a push to promote the use of Kannada in education and government, as well as to increase the visibility of Kannada culture in the media. Many Kannada language movements were formed in order to protect and promote the language. Kannada is an important language in South India, with a rich literary and cultural tradition. Its continued use and promotion are important for preserving the cultural heritage of the region, and for ensuring the linguistic rights of the Kannada-speaking people.

An essay is, generally, a piece of writing that gives the author's own argument, but the definition is vague, overlapping with those of a letter, a paper, an article, a pamphlet, and a short story. Essays have been sub-classified as formal and informal: formal essays are characterized by "serious purpose, dignity, logical organization, length," whereas the informal essay is characterized by "the personal element, humor, graceful style, rambling structure, unconventionality or novelty of theme," etc.

Chanakya Journal of Political Science. Vol.15 No.15
This paper attempts a sociolinguistic perspective of Kannada and its varieties/dialects in various regions of Karnataka. The paper attempts to perceive varieties beyond the established narrative of North and south divide. There is an attempt to shows how the popular notions about language, language variety need a course correction.
A treatise which defines the meanings of linguistic units such as a word, a suffix, a prefix, a phrase, an idiom etc of a language can be called a dictionary. The history of dictionaries n Kannada begins from tenth century AD. The early dictionaries up to the end of eighteenth century ere in verse form, very short accommodating only bout a thousand words and of limited use. In nineteenth century western scholars brought about radical changes and compiled dictionaries on scientific lines. In twentieth and twenty-first centuries the native scholars contributed in a big way and diversified dictionaries were constructed. At present lexicography in Kannada is comparable to that of any other language.

Languages belonging to four language families such as Indo - Aryan, Astro - Asiatic (Munda), Dravidian and Tibeto - Burman are spoken in our country. Among them Dravidian, the second largest spoken language family of the Indian subcontinent is mainly spoken in South Indian states - Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Telangana. The word ‘Dravidian’ from Sanskrit adjectival term dravida- was first used by Robert Caldwell. There are about 26 Dravidian languages (The Dravidian Languages Bhadriraju Krishnamurti, 2003) as mentioned by various scholars. Among these only four literary languages namely Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam are well civilized and are recognized by our Indian constitution. The Dravidian languages are classified into three subgroups while Telugu is considered as South Central Dravidian language
This paper intends to explore the interactions and interfaces between Kannada and English in terms of linguistic value, myth and danger in the process of globalization, i.e., the way in which linguistic hegemony and domination occur at the local and global levels in the context of linguistic preferences in the functional domains. The domains that we take into consideration in order to understand the linguistic hegemony and domination are education, science, technology, and wider communication. The impact of globalization, internationalism, information technology, economic reforms, and international relations on the local language [i.e. Kannada] is the major concern of this paper. This paper also focuses its attention on hybridity as a strategy of survival for those caught between the languages of their colonization and their indigenous languages and illustrates how, through hybridization, postcolonial subjects use colonial languages without privileging colonial languages. This shows colonial and indigenous languages contesting each other's authority, challenging and unmasking the hegemony of English. However, this paper conceives the relationship of English and Kannada as not always contestatory but as accommodating. This exploratory essay probes the conceptual and logical connections between these two elemental factors of human existence, offers thoughts about an alternative discourse, and looks at suggestive data regarding the tie between violence and identity. In this argumentative essay, language is seen as forming a nucleus of identity, identity as being forged in conflict, and discourse marking our path to, through and out of linguistic war and peace. Abating identity threats through identity-affirming discourse may, I conclude, be the best and most lasting tool towards linguistic peace.
This paper explores the sociolinguistic struggles and conflicts that have taken place in the
