25 Easy 3-Ingredient Desserts

3-Ingredient Desserts

These 3-ingredient desserts are so easy and impossible to resist!

From ice cream and fudge to chewy cookies, these quick treats are the perfect ending to your meal.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberry

Easy Desserts Made with Few Ingredients

Baking is my passion.

I truly love sweet treats, whether it’s eating them, prepping them, or spending hours scrolling for inspiration.

But we all have those moments when the craving hits and you need something fast!

Luckily, these 3-ingredient desserts are fast and made of things you probably have in-house already. Woo hoo!

1. 3-Ingredient No-Churn Ice Cream

An ice cream maker is never going to be a bad investment. I promise you won’t regret having one on hand!

That being said, you can have a loaf pan full of creamy vanilla ice cream in a matter of minutes with this recipe.

Use vanilla paste or top quality extract. You will taste the difference in this case.

Gently fold the condensed milk with the whipped cream so as not to deflate it, and try to be patient as it freezes.

2. Tiger Butter Fudge

This recipe is a cross between fudge and bark, with a layer of peanut butter and white chocolate swirled with dark or milk chocolate.

It’s thinner than fudge, but the peanut butter brings a chewy texture to the chocolate that is to die for.

The creamy peanut butter will give you the prettiest swirls, and be sure to get good quality chocolate. The cheap stuff just doesn’t melt the same.

3. 3-Ingredient Easy Apple Cobbler

When a cobbler can taste this good with just three ingredients, it’s going to be hard to go back to any other recipe.

Using canned cinnamon rolls is such a brilliant option.

Not only are they fluffy and tender, but they’re also packed with flavor and can save you hours in the kitchen.

Apple pie filling is a classic option that will complement the cinnamon well, but honestly, any good pie filling will do the trick.

4. 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Banana Bars Recipe

I’m always amazed at how things come together, even without eggs, butter, or flour.

These bars are so simple and call for just bananas, peanut butter, and oats.

Of course, there are a couple of extras if you want to add chocolate and nuts to the top.

If you use ripe enough bananas, there really is no need for any added sugar.

And if you use chunky peanut butter, you won’t need to add nuts.

5. 3-Ingredient Chocolate Almond Clusters

When making cookie boxes during the holidays, I always like to include something like this.

They are made using dark chocolate, almonds, and sea salt. That’s it!

After a day spent making and rolling doughs, it’s so lovely to have something deliciously simple.

These would work with all kinds of nuts, and you could use semi-sweet or even milk chocolate if you prefer.

6. 3-Ingredient Mounds Bar Recipe

Another super simple treat with just a few ingredients. These are even better than what you find in the stores.

The condensed milk will add sweetness and moisture to the coconut, which will stay tender and tasty.

I love dark chocolate on these, as the richness works so well with the subtle coconut. But if you like it less bitter, semi-sweet would work, too.

7. 3-Ingredient Homemade Butterfingers

Much like the real thing, these are very sweet!

The filling is made using candy corn and peanut butter, so you’ll know you’re getting a good shot of sugar!

But isn’t that the fun part?

Though these make great little homemade candy bars, they would also work well as little truffles.

8. Chocolate Covered Strawberries

When they’re in season, I have to admit I usually go strawberry crazy.

I make jam, cookies, cakes, and more!

But there’s nothing like a big bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries. They’re actually my favorite thing to decorate a cake with!

Be sure to wash and thoroughly dry your fruit; otherwise, the chocolate won’t stick.

If topping with nuts, coconut, or sprinkles, do so right after dipping.

9. 3-Ingredient White Chocolate Peppermint Pretzels

When it comes to salty and sweet, I love to use pretzels.

They have a unique flavor already and add crunch and salt in the perfect proportions.

Be sure you have your candy canes crushed and ready to go and use good quality white chocolate.

Alternatively, you could use almond bark for extra flavor.

Dole Whip

10. Disney Dole Whip Recipe

This classic Disney recipe can be made with just a few ingredients. Vanilla ice cream, pineapple juice, and frozen pineapple come together for the perfect summer treat!

Put everything into a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

11. 3-Ingredient Roasted Almond Toffee Bark

Chocolate bark is always going to be a safe, sweet treat.

The base is chocolate, so you know it’s going to be good!

You’ll be roasting the almonds to enhance their flavor before chopping them into fine crumbs for this version.

Once mixed into the chocolate with the toffee bits, you’ll have a great homemade chocolate bar, full of crunch and flavor.

12. 3-Ingredient Low-Sugar Cranberry Chocolate Almond Bark

These bark drops are a little different from the standard recipes.

Usually, you make a tray, spreading the chocolate over a parchment sheet and breaking it into shards once set.

For this recipe, you’ll be dropping the chocolate into rounds and topping with dried cranberries and almonds.

Of course, you can make it into a sheet like normal, but I like the look of the individual bites.

13. Easy Fruit Sorbet

Just like making banana ice cream with only frozen bananas, this recipe is essentially blended frozen fruits.

But unlike with the bananas, you will need to add some sugar to the mix.

Whether using blueberries, strawberries, or peaches, you’ll almost always need to add a little sugar to bring out the fruit’s flavor.

Making a simple syrup with water and sugar is the easiest way to incorporate sweetness, and it can be stored and used for everything from coffee to smoothies.

Once blended, you can eat it immediately or keep it in the freezer.

For something a little creamier, try adding some coconut cream to the mix.

Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge

14. 3-Ingredient Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge

Fudge is such a fun, simple, and tasty treat.

This peanut butter recipe is creamy and chewy, and there’s no need for a candy thermometer.

You can make this in the microwave and have it ready in just a few minutes.

When heating in the microwave, always use 30-second intervals, carefully stirring in between to avoid burning.

Be sure to use a large enough bowl so that you can safely stir without the mixture overflowing.

I know adding sea salt or a chocolate drizzle would make it 4-ingredient peanut butter fudge, but I won’t tell if you won’t.

15. 3-Ingredient Homemade Thin Mints

If you’re team Samoas, you can skip to the next recipe.

But for those of you that have a box of Thin Mints tucked away in the freezer, this one’s for you.

I know it sounds crazy, but using butter crackers is such a genius way to recreate these family favorites at home.

Be careful when adding the peppermint, as it will be quite strong.

Microwave Baked Apples

16. Microwave Baked Apples

Don’t tell your grandma, but you can make a batch of baked apples in a matter of minutes. You just need a microwave and a few simple ingredients!

I know it seems blasphemous to use a microwave for baked apples, but it really does work.

Not only do they become wonderfully tender, but they also keep their shape much better.

These would be great served with a scoop of ice cream or as a topping for your oats or pancakes.

A Slice of Pineapple Angel Food Cake with a Fork

17. Pineapple Angel Food Cake

This is technically a 2-ingredient cake. But it’s not the same without the whipped topping, so that makes three!

The cake comes together with just angel food cake mix and crushed pineapple – juices and all.

It’s super light and fluffy, and wonderfully fruity.

18. Haystacks Recipe

Whoever thought to use chow mein noodles for these sweet treats deserves a medal.

They’re just the right texture and make for the cutest little haystacks!

Although you could use chocolate for these, I love the color and flavor you get from the butterscotch morsels.

Any chopped nuts will work will this recipe. And as always, a sprinkling of sea salt wouldn’t be a bad idea.

19. 3-Ingredient Shortbread

I used to make shortbread all the time as a kid, and I still go back to it now.

It’s so buttery and straightforward and often better than most elaborate sugar cookies.

For me, the simpler, the better.

And it doesn’t get much easier than three ingredients!

20. 3-Ingredient Chocolate Truffle Recipe

Chocolate ganache is such a magical thing. With just the right amount of cream, the chocolate will set but stay soft and silky,

Once set, scoop the ganache into truffles and coat them in pure chocolate, cocoa, nuts, sprinkles – whatever you like.

21. S’mores Dip

Whether you have last-minute guests or just a late-night craving, this recipe is super easy and always a winner.

We all love to pick at dips and chips, and this dessert dip is no exception.

All you’ll need is a good layer of chocolate topped with a covering of marshmallows.

Bake until the marshmallows are golden and the chocolate has melted. Easy!

22. Easy 3-Ingredient Coconut Macaroons

Since coconut can be quite subtle, I often find it gets lost when mixed into other recipes.

For this, coconut is the star of the show!

When mixed with the condensed milk, it will be sweetened and become creamy and sticky.

After baking, the edges will turn slightly crisp, leaving a perfectly chewy center.

23. 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies

These gluten-free cookies are so simple to make and so hard to resist.

You won’t need flour or butter. Amazingly, all you need is peanut butter, sugar, and eggs.

The dough will be quite soft, but it bakes into the most delightful cookies.

24. Rolo Pretzels

Did you know that you can bake Rolo candies on top of pretzel squares and create a simple, sweet snack?

It’s true. And they’re so good, I ate half the day I made them!

The M&Ms on top add nice color and texture. But they’re optional – or you could swap them for nuts or Reese’s Pieces.

3-Ingredients Banana Bread

25. 3-Ingredient Banana Bread

This might not look fancy, but you can’t beat how easy it is to make!

Like the pineapple cake above, you’ll mix boxed cake mix with fruit (mashed bananas). Only here, you’ll add eggs, too.

Feel free to add frosting or glaze. Or try it with a smear of peanut butter!

Classic Fudge

Easy desserts

Let’s start off nice and simple. Just grab some chocolate, a can of condensed milk, and the mix-in of your choice, and you’ve got the simplest fudge you could ever imagine.

Easy desserts

The best part of fudge? It can be easily adapted. You can use white instead of semi-sweet chocolate and add in some Oreos to create the cookies and cream flavor of your dreams.

Peanut Butter Fudge

Easy desserts

If you don’t feel like splurging on sweetened condensed milk, you can also make an easy, customizable fudge out of peanut butter and vanilla frosting. If you’re allergic to peanuts, no worries. Nutella works just as well (if not better).

Nutella Brownies

Easy desserts

Speaking of Nutella, why not turn it in to a brownie? This dangerously simple dessert only requires flour, eggs, and (obviously) Nutella.

Nutella Souffle

Easy desserts

Nutella-Stuffed Waffles

Easy desserts

If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of Nutella, but I swear I’m done after this. I just couldn’t resist mentioning a waffle made out of biscuit dough. Absolute genius. And if you’re really sick of me talking about Nutella, then stuff your waffle with something else .

Two-Ingredient Crepes

Easy desserts

If breakfast for dessert is your jam, then try this recipe for crepes sake. But lay the cheesy puns aside , and pick up some cream cheese (and eggs) instead. That’s all you need to these basic crepes. Top them with whatever you enjoy, like fruit. Or Nutella.

Banana Pancakes

Easy desserts

First crepes, now pancakes. Who knew you could make multiple classic breakfast foods with so few ingredients? (I did. Because I’ve made and love both recipes).

Just mix a mashed banana with a couple of eggs, and cook it like you would a pancake. If you’re really intent on adding in a third ingredient, mix in some baking powder for extra fluffiness, vanilla for extra flavor, or chocolate chips for extra comfort.

Chocolate Mug Cake

Easy desserts

If you don’t have time to be messing around with the stove, take the same banana/egg mixture, add some cocoa powder, and cook it in a mug in the microwave instead. Voila, your pancake just turned in to a mug cake.

Banana Ice Cream

Easy desserts

If you like your banana desserts chilled instead, puree a frozen banana in a food processor to make the simplest (and healthiest) homemade ice cream ever. You can also mix in almond milk to make the ice cream smoother or add chocolate chips because no dessert should be that simple.

Greek Yogurt Banana Poppers

Dulce de Leche Rice Krispies

Easy desserts

If you have extra time or need more rice krispies, then try this spin on the original. It may sound fancier than your classic rice krispie, but it actually requires fewer ingredients and less effort. Just mix some cereal with some melted dulce de leche and wait for that baby to set.

Maybe you like your chocolate more solid. That’s chill. Make a cold, creamy chocolate mousse. You seriously only need chocolate for this recipe (and water, but that doesn’t really count). If you can’t handle that level of simplicity, you can also add salt or cinnamon for extra flavor.

Barks are seriously the best three ingredient desserts, because you seriously only need chocolate and whatever mix-ins you desire. Although this recipe calls for dark chocolate, you could also use white chocolate. The saltiness from the pistachios will help offset the sweetness.

29 Fabulous 3 Ingredient Desserts

A chocolate mug cake on a table, highlighting the idea of 3 ingredient desserts

Desserts are often complicated, with a huge list of ingredients and steps for you to follow. Who has time for that? Sometimes you just want a treat that can be quickly prepared and enjoyed. These 3 ingredient desserts are perfect for this goal.

Designing desserts with just 3 ingredients isn’t as difficult as you might expect. Plenty of recipes have achieved this, with surprisingly tasty results. The desserts come in a whole range of styles and flavors, so there’s always something new to try.

Most of the ones in this list rely on simple ingredients, like butter, eggs, and cocoa powder. These are common pantry ingredients, so you probably have most of what you need already. Why not give a few of these easy treats a try? You could then pair the dessert with a delicious drink.

P.S. If you want easy desserts, why not try a dessert of the month club instead? These send prepared desserts to you every month, giving you a sweet treat with zero effort. There are plenty of more specialized clubs as well, including chocolate , cookies , and even ice cream clubs.

Finally, there are plenty of sous vide dessert recipes . These offer different textures and flavors than regular desserts.

Peanut butter cookies.

A wooden table with homemade peanut butter cookies and peanuts scattered aronud, next to a glass of milk

Did you know that peanut butter cookies can be made with just 3 ingredients? Shocking, right? To do so, you simply combine peanut butter with white sugar and eggs, form them into cookies, then bake them. The approach works because the peanut butter has such a dense texture.

The egg is essential here. If you want peanut butter cookies without an egg, you’ll need to use more ingredients, including flour.

Creme brûlée.

Two ramekins with a simple homemade version of creme brulee that includes strawberries on the top

Creme brûlée traditionally uses more than 3 ingredients, but you can easily make a cheat version at home using vanilla ice cream, an egg yolk, and some sugar.

Interestingly, the ice cream isn’t being used for serving the dessert. You need to melt it and whisk the egg yolk into it instead. The approach may sound weird, but it all turns out perfectly in the end.

A blue table with a few brown sugar coconut fat bombs, next to coconut, coconut oil, and sweeteners

Fat bombs are most popular among keto dieters, as they’re a low carb way to boost fat intake and keep macros on track. There are plenty of 3 ingredient versions. For example, you can make peanut butter fat bombs using peanut butter, coconut flour, and sweetener, or cheesecake ones using cream cheese, peanut butter, and sweetener.

Combining coconut butter, peanut butter, and cocoa powder works well too. You could also just start playing around with the ingredients and find your own combinations.

Chocolate Fudge

A wooden board with a pile of chocolate fudge squares, next to a block of uncut chocolate fudge.

Chocolate fudge is a more traditional treat and can be incredibly simple. You can make a tasty 3 ingredient version by just combining chocolate chips with condensed milk and vanilla extract . Or, you could drop out the vanilla extract and use some salt instead for a sweet and salty treat.

This fudge is also pretty foolproof, so it’s a fantastic choice even if you aren’t very good in the kitchen.

Peanut Butter Cups

A small wooden board with homemade chocolate peanut butter cups, with a selection of chocolate and more peanut butter cups in the background

What about peanut butter cups? These can be as simple as using a cupcake liner to make a chocolate shell, filling this with peanut butter, and adding more chocolate on top.

However, most versions add an extra ingredient. If your peanut butter is made from just peanuts and salt, you may need to add sugar or maple syrup to make it sweet enough. If your peanut butter is unsalted, you might need to add some salt instead.

Either way, these homemade treats are much less processed than Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups and just as tasty.

Bounty Balls

Homemade bounty balls that have been dipped in chocolate, next to a spoon of coconut oil, with coconut halves in the background

These sweet treats are inspired by Bounty bars, which are similar to Almond Joy bars and Mounds. You begin by simply mixing together coconut and sweetened condensed milk.

This gives you a sticky mixture that you can roll into balls. These should be frozen for half an hour or so to firm them up. Once frozen, the coconut balls can be dipped in melted chocolate.

Dark chocolate will give you the best flavor contrast. However, you can easily use milk chocolate if you prefer. You could also drizzle the chocolate over the balls, rather than completely dipping them.

Nutella Mug Cake

A white mug on a table that contains a chocolate or Nutella mug cake, with a second one off camera and various containers of ingredients

Mug cakes are the ultimate in easy desserts. They’re exactly what the name suggests – a miniature cake made in a mug. These are mostly prepared in the microwave, so they’re ready much sooner than any regular cake.

It often takes less than 10 minutes to go from the raw ingredients to a cooked single-serving cake. It’s hard to get more practical than that.

Mug cakes often involve 5 or more ingredients, but you can make them with 3. A Nutella mug cake is one of the easiest approaches. You just need all purpose flour, Nutella, and an egg.

White Chocolate Mummy Pretzels

Halloween treats made using pretzel sticks, white chocolate, and candy eyes

These pretzels would make the perfect holiday treat. They’re surprisingly simple too, as they just rely on pretzel rods, white melting chocolate, and some candy eyeballs.

To make them, you first dip the pretzel sticks in melted chocolate. Then you shake off the excess white chocolate and place two candy eyeballs on each pretzel rod. Leave them to set on waxed paper.

Once the pretzels have mostly set, you can start to drizzle white chocolate over them to make them look like mummies. You’ll need to be a little careful here though, as you don’t want any chocolate to go over the eyes.

Marshmallow Fudge

A white plate with chocolate marshmallow fudge

Marshmallows are a fantastic way to give your fudge an interesting texture. This fudge is incredibly easy to make too. You just need chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, and tiny marshmallows.

The chocolate chips are first melted and combined with the condensed milk. You can do this in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stovetop. Once the mixture is uniform, stir in the mini marshmallows and pour the fudge into a pan. Then it just needs to cool.

Peanut Butter Balls

A wire tray containing chocolate dipped peanut butter balls, next to a spoon that's been coated in chocolate

We talked about peanut butter cookies before, but what about making peanut butter balls instead? These are often softer than the cookies and don’t need to be baked.

One approach involves combining the peanut butter with mini chocolate chips and old fashioned oats. The oats provide extra fiber and texture to the balls. If you don’t want the texture, you can easily blend the oats to create flour. Or, skip the chocolate chips and dip the balls in chocolate instead.

Alternatively, you can make peanut butter balls using peanut butter, coconut flour, and maple syrup. This gives you a smooth texture and a bit of sweetness. Plus, the balls end up being gluten free.

Roasted Almond Toffee Bark

A white plate with a dark rim, with pieces of chocolate almond bark

Chocolate bark is always a delicious treat and it’s easy to make too. There are plenty of ways to vary your bark, like by including toffee pieces and chopped almonds.

You could roast the almonds yourself or simply buy them from the store. Buying them is always easier and you could even use store-bought flavored almonds.

Other Mug Cakes

A white mug on a white plate, containing a peanut butter mug cake with chocolate chips

We mentioned a Nutella mug cake earlier, but this isn’t your only option. You can also make 3 ingredient chocolate mug cakes by combining chocolate chips or cocoa powder with egg and sugar. This also makes it a flourless mug cake.

There are some tasty peanut butter mug cakes as well, like one that combines peanut butter, chocolate chips, and an egg. The chocolate chips are a nice touch and make the cake that much tastier.

If you want something more complex, like a vanilla mug cake or a strawberry one, you’re going to need a few more ingredients. Don’t worry. The cakes are still pretty easy to make. You can even find egg free versions.

Chocolate, Fruit, And Nut Bark

A piece of parchment paper with chocolate and fruit bark, with some more nuts and fruit in bowls in the background

Here’s another riff on chocolate bark. This time you’re combining chocolate with crushed almonds and cranberries.

The cranberries are a fantastic addition, as they provide a vibrant fruity contrast to the chocolate. They also make the bark particularly good as a Christmas-themed dessert.

If you don’t mind going above the 3 ingredient target, then you could use a combination of milk and white chocolate for this recipe. You can easily make a swirled effect with these, which makes your bark even more exciting.

Of course, that’s just one version. You could use almost any combination of fruit and dried nuts. Some recipes even include multiple types of each to give you plenty of variation.

Coconut Macaroons

A black tray with a selection of homemade coconut macaroons that have chocolate at their base and are drizzled with more chocolate

Macaroons don’t need to be complicated. You can make a 3 ingredient version by mixing together shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and some vanilla extract. Another version relies on shredded coconut, egg whites, and powdered sugar.

It’s even possible to make a keto friendly version, using egg whites, shredded coconut, and sugar free sweetener. This version is still delicious and keeps the carbs very low.

Dairy Free Chocolate Brownies

A black square tray containing salted chocolate brownies that have been cut into squares

These chocolate brownies don’t just keep the ingredient total low. They’re also grain free, gluten free, and dairy free.

The sugar content is much lower than normal too, as the brownies use bananas for sweetness and texture. While this might seem strange, the bananas do provide plenty of moisture, while also making the brownies sweet and providing some antioxidants.

No Bake Cereal Bars

A selection of homemade cereal bars made from Cheerios on a gray table

You know how you often get leftover bits of cereal in the bottom of the bag, ones that are too crushed to be of much use? Cereal bars are a great way to use this cereal and reduce waste. There’s a fantastic recipe for doing so at thebigmansworld.com . You could even combine multiple types of cereal if you have a lot of mostly finished bags lying around.

The rest of the recipe is incredibly simple. You just need to melt nut butter with some type of sticky sweetener, like maple syrup. You then pour the liquid over a tray containing your cereal. It takes around half an hour in the fridge for the cereal bars to firm up.

The bars can be kept at room temperature, but they’re much better when stored in the freezer or at least in the fridge.

Key Lime Pie

A white table with a key lime pie that is cut into six sections. There is a knife next to it and some limes in the background

It’s actually possible to make an entire key lime pie with just 3 ingredients. You do this by combining key lime juice (regular limes work well too) with condensed milk, then pouring the mixture into a premade graham crust.

The texture is surprisingly similar to a regular key lime pie, as the lime juice thickens the condensed milk. You could include some lime zest as well for extra flavor.

Using premade graham pie crust might seem like pushing it for the 3 ingredient goal. If that annoys you, try using crushed graham crackers at the bottom of a glass and topping this with the key lime mixture.

Flourless Chocolate Cake

A gray table with a whole flourless chocolate cake that has two large pieces cut from it

You can make a pretty tasty chocolate cake using just 3 ingredients and no flour at all. The only ingredients are butter, chocolate, and eggs. You end up with a very decadent cake, but let’s be honest, decadent desserts are never bad.

The cake could be excellent on a low carb diet too, particularly if you rely on dark chocolate. You could also make a dairy free version by focusing on vegan butter and dairy free chocolate chips.

Banana Cinnamon Rolls

A white table with a full banana cinnamon roll and other rolls that are mostly out of shot

Banana isn’t a common ingredient in cinnamon rolls, but the idea works surprisingly well. We’re not just talking about mixing bananas into the batter either. Instead, the rolls are made using strips of bananas rather than dough.

Date paste is used as well, which makes these a very fruit heavy dessert. If you want to try these for yourself, check out the detailed recipe at feastingonfruit.com . Just be aware that these won’t taste much like regular cinnamon rolls.

Air Cheesecake

A bowl of cream cheese that has been whipped with sugar to be used for an air cheesecake

I love the idea of air cheesecake . It’s an incredibly creative recipe that gives you some of the taste of cheesecake, for a fraction of the work.

All you need is softened cream cheese, white sugar, and whipping cream. The cream cheese and sugar are first whisked together, then you go to work on the whipping cream. Once you’ve made stiff peaks from the cream, you fold the sugar and cream cheese mixture into it.

You can mix the ingredients together a little more if needed, then you’re good to go. The texture and flavor aren’t exactly like a cheesecake. Still, it’s pretty close for a 5 minute dessert.

No Churn Ice Cream

A small wooden bowl containing scoops of no churn vanilla ice cream with vanilla beans and a tiny peppermint leaf

You can also make simple ice cream using just three ingredients. You don’t even need an ice cream maker.

The most popular version combines sweetened condensed milk with heavy cream and vanilla extract. The technique is similar to making air cheesecake, except that you finish the ice cream off by freezing it.

You can make other versions by substituting the vanilla extract for another ingredient, like lime juice or cocoa powder. Crushed Oreos would be delicious too.

Chocolate Mousse

A small glass jar of homemade chocolate mousse with a spoon, next to some pieces of chocolate

Want to make chocolate mousse? You just need to combine cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and heavy whipping cream. Or, you could drop out the cocoa powder and use melted chocolate instead.

The quality of your cocoa powder or chocolate will make a huge difference to this recipe, so choose carefully.

Cheesecake Cups

Two glasses of homemade cheesecakes, with graham cracker bases, the cheesecake section, and fresh strawberries

Here’s one for all you cheesecake lovers – 3 ingredient cheesecake cups . Actually, this one is a slight cheat, as the recipe is just for the cheesecake portion. You’ll still need crushed graham crackers for the base of the dessert and perhaps some fruit for the top.

Still, making cheesecake filling with just 3 ingredients is pretty impressive. There are plenty of ways to tweak the flavors too. The linked recipe highlights many of these.

Caramel Sauce

A wooden tray with a large container of caramel sauce, a whisk, and a small container of the sauce that someone is using a spoon with

You probably wouldn’t serve caramel sauce on its own. Still, it’s a fantastic starting point for dessert and can be combined with many other dishes.

To make it, you just need sugar, butter, and heavy whipping cream. You can’t substitute the cream for a lighter type, as the fat content is what makes your caramel so smooth.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

A wire frame with some cooling chocolate oatmeal cookies

These oat cookies are a great way to boost your fiber intake. They’re simpler than most cookies too, as you just need oats, bananas, and chocolate chips.

Don’t worry, the finished cookies don’t have a strong banana flavor. They simply taste like chocolate instead. The banana is simply included to prevent the chocolate from getting too hard as it cools. This trick gives you soft and chewy cookies every time.

What’s more, these cookies aren’t baked and use no flour or eggs. These features make them much more versatile than traditional cookies.

Lemon Ricotta Tray Cake

A large metal tray with a lemon ricotta tray cake on a silver table

Tray cakes are pretty simple to begin with. A 3 ingredient version makes everything even easier.

While this recipe is too good to ignore, it does break tradition, as the ingredients are pancake mix, lemon curd, and ricotta. Calling pancake mix a single ingredient feels a little like cheating. Still, you end up with a fast, easy, and delicious dessert. Isn’t that what matters?

Apple Danish

A white plate with some homemade apple danishes, with apples in the background

Simple apple danishes follow a similar style, as you’re using store-bought puff pastry, with apples and caster sugar. Honestly though, such danishes will taste almost as good as those with homemade pastry and take a fraction of the effort. It’s hard to do better.

Cinnamon Sugar Pie Crust Cookies

A white plate with cinnamon sugar pie crust cookies next to a book, perhaps a cookbook

These cookies are a hybrid dessert, as they’re made using a pie crust, but baked like traditional cookies. The pie crust gives the cookies a different texture than normal.

This isn’t a bad thing though. After all, traditional cookies get boring after a while.

Cinnamon Apple Cobbler

A wooden spoon mixing apple pieces and cinnamon together, which will be part of a cinnamon apple cobbler

Let’s round off this list with a familiar idea – apple cobbler. This is another recipe that stretches the idea of 3 ingredients, although it is amazing.

You need Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, apple pie filling, and cinnamon to make it. You start by cutting up the uncooked cinnamon rolls, mix these with the apple pie filling and cinnamon, then bake. The resulting treat isn’t like traditional apple cobbler at all – it’s better. Even if you’re uncertain, it’s worth experimenting with this recipe at least once. It might be your next favorite.

"You just have to try this, no dessert could be easier! Kids would have fun making these but adults alike will enjoy eating them."

Two Ingredient Pumpkin Cake

This pumpkin cake recipe uses two ingredients, but most reviewers say to add a third ingredient — two eggs. "It doesn't get any easier than this. Perfect when you have no time to shop for multiple ingred's," according to reviewer bdh76.

Joy Bauer makes 3 superfood-packed desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth

Indulge in a trio of treats with these mouthwatering recipes that promise to elevate your dessert game in unexpected ways. Packed with wholesome ingredients, these desserts offer healthier twists without compromising on flavor and sweet satisfaction.

First up, you won’t be able to resist the luxurious allure of my sweet potato crème brûlée, a creamy and caramelized gem that adds a touch of sophistication to your sweet repertoire. Next, my three-ingredient berry cobbler is as easy to make as it is delicious to eat. Lastly, treat yourself to the dreamy combination of juicy clementines dipped in rich, velvety chocolate, delivering a burst of sweet citrusy goodness. Each recipe is palate-pleasing perfection — I hope you savor every scrumptious bite.

Sweet Potato Crème Brûlée

Superfood Desserts

Prepare to experience pure indulgence with this sweet potato crème brûlée, where a caramelized crackable topping gives way to a luxurious, custard-like filling infused with the subtly sweet taste of roasted sweet potato. Is your mouth watering yet? This decadent dessert boasts a creamy center that’s delicious on its own, but it’s the finishing sprinkle of coconut sugar on top that truly elevates the eating experience. As the sugar caramelizes under the broiler, it crystallizes to form a snappy crust that crackles with each spoonful, adding an irresistible contrast of textures and a burst of sweet, delicious flavor. It’s a unique way to reap the health perks of our favorite orange spud!

3-Ingredient Berry Cobbler

Superfood Desserts

With just three simple ingredients — fresh or frozen berries, vanilla cake mix and berry-flavored sparkling water — this cobbler recipe is your secret weapon for a sweet and satisfying treat. What sets it apart is not only its simplicity but also the fact that it contains a fraction of the sugar compared to traditional cobblers, making it a healthier indulgence. The end result is warm and luscious fruit gently blended with scrumptious, moist cake. It’s gently sweet and incredibly satisfying. Spoon it into ramekins or small bowls, and for an extra touch of lavishness, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to three days, and while you can warm it up in the microwave, it’s actually just as delicious cold.

Chocolate Clementines

Superfood Desserts

Introducing my chocolate-dipped clementines! But before we indulge, let’s delve into what sets clementines apart. These petite citrus wonders are a specific variety of mandarin oranges cherished for their vibrant flavor and effortless peeling. Unlike their larger Mandarin counterparts, clementines are compact, making them ideal for on-the-go snacking. They are sweet, (typically) seedless, and filled with vitamin C. This recipe takes mini oranges to a whole new level of deliciousness because, well, that’s what chocolate does to just about everything. This treat is simple, scrumptious and sure to spark joy in every juicy bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 clementines, peeled and segmented
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips, melted
  • optional sea salt

Preparation

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Dip 1/3 to 1/2 a clementine segment in melted chocolate. Sprinkle with optional sea salt and refrigerate for 15 minutes, or until chocolate has hardened.

3 Chocolate Dessert Recipes for Every Skill Level, From Beginner to Expert

Thomas Joseph shares his three favorite chocolate desserts for Valentine’s Day, perfect for beginner, intermediate, and advanced bakers.

One of the sweetest ways to say I love you is with a homemade chocolate dessert. Sure, oysters and caviar, even asparagus, are all aphrodisiacs and may feature on your Valentine’s Day dinner menu , but chocolate is just better. It’s a quick route to the heart and the ultimate way to end a romantic meal.

A bar of chocolate or a box of truffles is a lovely way to enjoy chocolate together, but making a dessert to share with your loved one is a heartfelt way to show your affection. Whether you’re a beginner baker or have Martha-level skills, there’s a chocolate dessert just right for you. I’ve selected three of my favorite chocolate recipes, along with tips for customizing them for a truly special dessert.

Choosing the Right Chocolate

All of these chocolate desserts have just a few ingredients, and the quality of the chocolate you use will impact the finished dessert. My advice for Valentine’s Day, or any time you’re making a special chocolate dessert, is to buy the best chocolate you can find—it should be something you would want to eat as a chocolate bar (unless the recipe calls for unsweetened chocolate!). Supermarkets carry a wide selection and these recipes don’t use that much, so splurge!

Beginner: Brownies Your Way

Bryan Gardner

Brownies give a lot for little effort. They’re indulgent and special, but you don't need a mixer or any cake decorating skills to make them. And you bake them ahead of time, so there’s no last-minute pressure. My go-to recipe is my Fudgy Brownies , and while I love them as is, there are so many easy ways to customize them, which is cute for a Valentine's Day treat.

You can add mix-ins to the batter just before you transfer it to the baking pan, or scatter them on top (my preferred method). Use a generous handful or two of any of the following:

  • Chocolate chunks or chopped chocolate: My brownie recipe uses bittersweet chocolate in the batter, but you could add semisweet or white chocolate, or a combination of bittersweet and white.
  • Chocolate candies and caramels: Toffee Bits ( such as Heath), soft, melting caramels, Peppermint Patties, or your favorite chocolate candies (peanut butter cups, etc).
  • Nuts: Use the same handful or two of your favorite nuts, whether that’s pecans, almonds, or walnuts. I like to toast them first in a pan in the oven or on the stovetop to give them more flavor, and a crisp texture for better contrast with the soft, chewy brownie.
  • Marshmallows
  • Toasted coconut
  • Luxardo Cherries (These are so much better than any other canned or jarred cherries, they're the ultimate maraschino cherries.)

You can swirl in 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (maybe also 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar) or caramel, or a cheesecake mixture made with 8 ounces cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 egg, right before baking to give your brownies a special marbled look.

After your brownies have baked and cooled, you can dress them up with a topping.

  • Frosting: Brownies don’t need frosting, but for a special occasion, topping them with Swiss Meringue Buttercream tinted pastel pink is a fun touch.
  • Ganache: a simple mixture of melted chocolate and heavy cream, ganache is an opportunity to add more chocolate flavor to your brownies
  • Meringue: Spread meringue over the brownies and toast it with a torch for a s’mores-like finish.

Serving Ideas

We generally cut brownies into squares—I do 2 1/2-inch squares with my fudgy brownies.

For Valentine’s Day, you could use a heart-shaped cookie cutter for special shaped brownies, or use our trick for creating a heart-shaped cake using two batches of brownies, one baked in a round pan and the other in a square pan.

Whether you serve square or shaped brownies, another way to elevate this decadent treat is to pair them with ice cream and hot fudge sauce for a decadent brownie sundae.

My Tip for Fudgy Brownie Success

Brownies are easy and forgiving, but to make sure yours are fudgy, check them before the baking time specified in your recipes is up: Use a toothpick or cake tester in the middle of the brownies—moist crumbs on the tester indicate that it’s time to take them out of the oven and cool them on a rack.

Intermediate: Warm Chocolate Cakes

You've probably seen warm chocolate cakes or molten lava cakes on restaurant dessert menus. They are impressive, but also pretty easy to make using just a few ingredients, and they bake up fast. Warm chocolate cakes are usually baked in individual portions in ramekins, because the cakes are so "molten" that it's hard to serve portions of a larger cake—plus, serving each person their own individual cake is special.

My advice would be to make the batter ahead of time and portion it into the ramekins, then cover them with plastic wrap until it’s time to bake them.

They only take seven or eight minutes to bake, depending on the size of the ramekins you are using. Err on the side of less, not more, when baking warm chocolate cakes; the cakes should not be set in the middle. If you prepared the batter ahead, you can clear the dinner plates and pop the cakes into your preheated oven. They'll be ready by the time you've made coffee and had a sip or opened some dessert wine.

The trick is to serve the warm chocolate cakes quickly—and the only tricky part is unmolding them onto a serving plate.

Try this cool trick to unmold the warm chocolate cakes from the hot ramekins: Wrap each of the ends of your tongs in a small piece of paper towel to give them grip, securing the paper towel in place with a rubber band. Then, use the tongs to transfer one ramekin from the hot baking sheet to the counter. Place a serving plate over the top of a ramekin and flip it to unmold, using the tongs to remove the ramekin and reveal the molten chocolate lava cake.

Garnish each cake simply with whipped cream or ice cream, and scatter some red berries, like raspberries.

Advanced: Chocolate Soufflé

John Kernick

A rich, cloud-like chocolate soufflé is the ultimate dessert for Valentine's Day. There is a lot of myth around soufflés, and people think they are harder to make than they actually are. I'm sharing my go-to chocolate soufflé recipe to encourage you to make them for your special dinner.

Some home cooks think they can't make soufflés because it's all last minute and they can't juggle making an entree and making soufflé. The great thing about a soufflé is you can make part of it ahead: The base can be made, covered, and refrigerated. Then, right before you are going to bake the soufflé, you whip the egg whites, fold them into the base, and bake. That make-ahead aspect makes them much less intimidating.

My favorite soufflé recipe uses milk chocolate. Many recipes use bittersweet chocolate, and while I'm a fan of dark chocolate, I really like using a sweeter chocolate for these soufflés to bring out caramel tones in the dessert.

The soufflés need to go straight from the oven to the table. Use my tongs trick to transfer the ramekins from the baking sheet to serving plates.

  • Sweetened whipped cream is the perfect accompaniment to the soufflés.
  • If you want to go a step further, make a crème anglaise . Serve it on the side, or a Martha-level presentation, use a small spoon to open up the center of the soufflé at the table and fill the opening with crème anglaise.
  • Use chocolate sauce or hot fudge sauce in place of the crème anglaise.

My Tip for Chocolate Soufflé Success

I find home cooks often get freaked out about making soufflés. My main tip for success is to leave the soufflé alone while baking—don't check on it. It needs the heat of the oven to rise and create crust structure. If you disturb it by opening the oven door or taking it out of the oven too soon, it will deflate. Put your timer on and watch the baking time in your recipe. There should be dryness around the edges of each soufflé when they are baked.
