Remotely controlled vehicle anti-theft system via GSM network is a system that explores the GSM network in order to produce a reliable and efficient vehicle security system. However, the design project can be viewed from two perspectives viz the hardware consideration and the software consideration. Minicom which is a terminal emulation program on Linux was utilized for the configuration of the Modem used in this project work due to its inherent advantages. Communication between the user and the vehicle sub-system is via sms (Short Messaging Service) messaging. SMS commands are sent to the GSM/GPRS Modem Module. The GSM/GPRS interpretes the message and performs necessary control actions. Also, sms messages are sent from the GSM/GPRS Modem Module to the user’s mobile phone whenever an alarm situation occurs. However, a toy car was used as a prototype display of this project work and prototype car was immobilized and demobilized from a mobile phone via SMS
This paper deals with design and development of the theft control system for an automobile, which is being used to prevent or control the theft. The developed system makes use of an embedded system based on GSM technology. The designed and developed is installed in the vehicle. An interfacing mobile is also connected to the microcontroller which is in turn, connected to the engine. We need to give the password before starting it. Once an unauthorized person tries to run the vehicle by giving a wrong password an alert message is sent to the owner of the vehicle that the vehicle is being stolen. This information is passed on to the central processing system whereby sitting at a remote place, a particular number is dialed by them to the interfacing mobile that is with the hardware kit which is installed in the vehicle. By reading the signals received by the mobile, one can control the ignition of the engine, say to stop the engine immediately. Again it will come to the normal condition only after entering a secured password. The owner of the vehicle and the central processing system will know this secured password. The main concept in this design is introducing the mobile communication into the embedded system. The designed unit is very simple and low cost. The entire designed unit is on a single chip. When the vehicle is stolen, the owner of the vehicle may inform to the central processing system, then they will stop the vehicle, by just giving a ring to the secret number and with the help of SIM tracking knows the location of the vehicle and informs to the local police or stops it from further movement.

In present days, car theft has become a major threat to the common man, with 1 car being stolen every 6.5 minutes in India. Though most of the car manufacturers flaunt of deploying immobilizers, still the number of cars being stolen is on the rise. With the invention of new and sophisticated way of stealing, every now and then car security has been threatened immensely. Not only India, “GRAND THEFT AUTO” seems to have become the most common game on the European and American streets too. Approximately 1 million vehicles are stolen each year in the US, which averages out to about 2,500 a day. Frankfurt remains Germany‟s car theft capital where Polish gangs operate a highly productive empire. Thorough research work and after going through various case studies made it possible to deduce that most car thefts are of the petty variety, rarely involving assault. This system proposes the design and construction of an advanced car security system using GSM. It uses the GSM mobile communication networks to transmit alarm signal and control instruction. The control and communication between the user and the proposed system are achieved through a short message services (SMS) protocol available in the mobile phone. If the car door is illegally opened or the car is vibrated, an alarm will be activated and it send SMS message to the owner’s mobile phone immediately and automatically. The user could easily protect and control their car anywhere at any time. The proposed system consists both hardware and software parts. The hardware components include vibration sensors, a PIC microcontroller, a GSM modem, LCD and buzzer. The software part includes a program controller interface. PIC MikroC programming language is used for this control system. The control system is based on the PIC16F877A microcontroller and AT COMMAND.

This dissertation project presents Design & Development of Innovative Automobile security system to control the theft of a vehicle using GSM, GPS and Fingerprint module. The main objective of this is to offer an advanced security system in multiple levels to protect the car from unauthorized access using GSM & RFID technology. It provides a protected password to unlock the car and real time biometric user authentication in second level to start the ignition after finger print verification is done. If the fingerprint is not match with that in database, P89v51rd2fn produces the interrupt signal to disable the engine and initiates an alarm and also inform the car owner about the unauthorized access via short Message Services (SMS) based.

The security of vehicles is extremely essential for vehicle owners especially to those whose hard-earned income was used to avail of one or simply, its loss would mean inconveniences to family and work. With these, it becomes the major problem of every vehicle owner. This thesis, Microcontroller-based Vehicle Security System with Tracking Capability using GSM and GPS Technologies, is a system that can be used to increase vehicle security, as it can track location of missing vehicle, and help authorities have credible evidence that the vehicle is stolen. The project uses the Global System for Mobile (GSM) and the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, which includes the use of GPS receiver module, GSM module, and microcontroller as its primary components. It also uses a vibration sensor that senses vehicle movement and a buzzer that sends an alarm when sensors are triggered. A confirmation message is sent to the vehicle owner of the vehicle by the device. The system also features capability of tracking the location of the vehicle with the help of the GPS receiver which gives data to the location of the vehicle by way of coordinates. These coordinates provide exact location of the motor vehicle. The SMS message that the vehicle owner will send to the device attached to the vehicle should follow correct format of limitation for successful use and the use of the four character password followed by the command. The command is for power switching or activating automatically the key switch, engine and alarm. If not observed, the device would not work. The project is deemed to provide vehicle owners the security of their vehicle. The system will not only ensure vehicle security but also lessen the threats on vehicles.

These interfaced modules along with vibration sensors, helps in monitoring function for the vehicles. GSM module already predefined for controlling the vehicle's states remotely, using the micro controller instructions, sets and dismisses the prevention of messages or calls. Comparing with the traditional system, this system extends the level of reliability and security along with better owner identification. The ARM LPC2148 will poll GPS module in prefixed intervals and sends the vehicle location information. Whenever any accident occurs Vibration sensor detects the vibration of the vehicle and accordingly force is applied to ARM, by using GPS, we will get particular location where accident occurs, and then GSM sends message to authorized members & ambulance . An efficient security system is implemented for anti-theft using an embedded system occupied with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a Global System of Mobile (GSM). The user interacts through this system with vehicles and determines their current locations and status using Google map. The user can track the position of targeted vehicles on Google Map. Using GPS locator, the target current location is determined and sent via Short Message Service (SMS) through GSM networks to user by sending SMS user can automatically demobilizes the car by disconnecting the ignition key supply from the car battery .

The proposed system for vehicle tracking and anti-theft detection locking system using Gsm & Gps deals with the design & development of a theft control system for safety and security in automobiles, which is being used to prevent the theft of a vehicle. The proposed system is placed in the vehicle and Mobile interfaced with engine protocols. When the vehicle is being stolen, the information about vehicle is received by vehicle owner with GSM technology for corrective action. The information is forwarded to central processing system which is in the form of the text message. The controller fetch the sms and sends it to the Global Positioning System (GPS) module and GPS module reads location in the form of latitude and longitude and sends information to the user's mobile. After getting location information about vehicle the mobile, car owner can control the ignition of the vehicle's engine. Controlling action generated by Car owner or system, it will stop or lock the engine immediately. The designed unit is very simple & low cost.
Security is always been an issue due to increasing crime rates most especially in the developing countries. Therefore, technology is being used as a tool to provide greater safety as preventive action to lessen the probability of car theft but due to unavoidable circumstances, corrective action is still an alternative plan. This design project dealt with a system that used to alert the car owner if there is someone who illegally opened the door in the driver's seat and trying to steal the car. A text message will be received by the car owner from the microcontroller unit with SMS module installed inside the car connected from the car door. Once the message was opened, there is an option for the owner to open the Internet Protocol camera to view the image inside the car. There is also a capability for the car owner to determine the location of the car through the use of Global Positioning System.

This paper presents ‘ An Anti-Vehicle Theft System using GSM and GPS with Image Acquisition’ . The aim is to design a system that can acquire the image of an unauthorized person and transmit it to a remote location. In order to achieve such a system, the major components used include a GSM modem with integrated GPS, a camera and a microcontroller (ATmega2560). The system makes use of a secret button for authentication of the driver. The secret button is connected and programmed in such a way that when the engine is started, a five minutes window is given to the driver to authenticate by pressing the secret button. If the driver does so, the security of the system is changed to tracking mode (implying that the vehicle coordinate is continually sent to an E-mail address) every fifty (50) minutes as the driver drives the vehicle. Vehicle tracking and locking system is installed in the vehicle, to track the place and locking engine motor. The place of the vehicle is identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM). These systems constantly watch a moving vehicle and report the status on demand. When the theft is identified, the responsible person sends SMS to the microcontroller, then microcontroller issue the control signals to stop the engine motor. Authorized person needs to send the password to controller to restart the vehicle and open the door. This is more secured, reliable and low cost. This system is designed for users in land construction and transport business, provides real-time information such as location, speed and expected arrival time of the user in moving vehicles. This system may also useful for communication process among the two points. Currently GPS vehicle tracking ensures their safety as travelling. This vehicle tracking system found in clients vehicles as a theft prevention and rescue device. Vehicle owner or police follow the signal emitted by the tracking system to locate a robbed vehicle in parallel the stolen vehicle engine speed going to decreased and pushed to off. After switch of the engine, motor cannot restart without permission of password. This system installed for the four wheelers. Vehicle tracking is usually used in navy operators for navy management functions, routing, send off, on board information and security. The applications include monitoring driving performance of a parent with a teen driver. Vehicle tracking systems accepted in consumer vehicles as a theft prevention and retrieval device. If the theft is identified, the system sends the SMS to the vehicle owner. After that vehicle owner sends the SMS to the controller, issue the necessary signals to stop the motor.

It can provide the real-time location of a vehicle and also report theft via Short Message Service (SMS) text to the client and alternatively the tracking server. The GPS reads the current coordinates of the vehicle and the data is sent to client via GSM network using the GSM modem. The client's mobile or tracking server can be used to stop vehicle theft by simply sending SMS text to the in-vehicle tracking device to switch off the vehicle ignition system. A desktop application is developed using Visual Basic (VB) and Microsoft (MS) Access with Google Maps embedded to view the current location of vehicle, set location update timing interval and prevent theft if client's mobile is lost. SMS was used due to its wide usage by mobile phone subscribers across the globe. —This proposed work is an attempt to design an advance vehicle security system that uses GPS and GSM system to prevent theft and to determine the exact location of vehicle. Today theft is happening on the parking or in some insecure place. The safety of the vehicle is exceptionally essential. The advance vehicle security system is designed using GPS and GSM technology. The system contains GPS module, GSM modem, Infrared sensors, DTMF tone decoder, 8051 microcontroller, relay switch, paint spray and high voltage mesh. GPS system track the current location of vehicle, there are two types of tracking used one is online tracking and other is offline tracking. GSM system is also installed in the vehicle for sending the information to the user because GPS system can only receive the vehicle location information from satellites. In case of accident this system automatically sends the message for help to ones relatives. The preventive measures like engine ignition cutoff, Fuel supply cutoff, electric shock system (installed on steering wheel) and paint spray system are installed in the vehicle which is controlled using user GSM Mobile. This complete system is designed taking in consideration the low range vehicles to provide them extreme security.

Insecurity is one of the major challenges that the entire world is facing now, each country having their peculiar security issues. The crime rate in every part of the society these days has become a threatening issue such that vehicles are now used for committing criminal activities more than before. The issue of vehicle theft has increased tremendously, mostly at gunpoint or car parks. In view of these, there is a need for adequate records of stolen, identified and recovered vehicles which are not readily available in our society and as such very important. The development of a vehicle theft alert and location identification system becomes more necessary for vehicle owners to ensure theft prevention and a speedy identification towards recovery efforts in situations where a vehicle is missing, stolen or driven by an unauthorized person. The theft alert function makes use of a GSM application developed and installed in a mobile phone device which is embedded in the vehicle to communicate with the vehicle owner’s mobile phone. The communication is established via SMS (i.e. between the installed mobile phone device and that of the vehicle owner). The communications established include; (i). Sending an SMS alert from installed mobile phone device to vehicle owner mobile phone when the car ignition is put on. (ii). Sending an SMS from the vehicle owner’s mobile phone to start and stop the installed mobile phone device application. The location identification function makes use of a web application developed to; (i). Determine the real time location of a vehicle by means of tracking using GPS. (ii). Broadcast missing or stolen vehicle information to social media and security agency. The implementation of the installed mobile phone device application was done using JAVA because of its capabilities in programming mobile applications while PHP and MySQL was used for the web application functions. Integration testing of the system was carried out using simple percentage calculation for the performance evaluation. Fifty seven (57) vehicle owners were sampled and questionnaires were distributed to them in order to ascertain the acceptability and workability of the developed system. The result obtained shows the effectiveness of the system and hence it can be used to effectively monitor vehicle as it is been driven within or outside its jurisdiction. More so, the system can be used as database of missing, identified or recovered vehicles by various security agencies. Index Terms—Vehicle, Theft alert, Location identification, Tracking, GPS.

Just lately auto monitoring method is getting significant reputation in view that of the rising quantity of the stolen vehicles. Automobile theft is taking place on parking and commonly riding in unsecured areas. This research work explores methods to avoid this type of stealing and supplies more security to the autos. The applied process involves single-board embedded method which is prepared with international system for cell (GSM) and international positioning process (GPS) together with a microcontroller established in the vehicle. Using GSM and GPS applied sciences enables the method to track the thing and provides the most up-to-date knowledge about ongoing journeys. Furthermore, fingerprint verification is completed within the applied method to make sure the riding of correct man or woman. Vehicle security and accident prevention is more challenging. So in order to bring a solution for this problem the proposed system can be implemented. Vehicle security enhancement and accident prevention system can be developed through tracking and locking, fuel theft, accident detection and prevention, driver fatigue, pollution control and speed limiting with efficient vehicle management system. The need for this is to provide security to the vehicles by engine locking system which prevents the vehicle from unauthorized access. It can also prove beneficial to find out the exact location of the accident. This proposed work is an attempt to design such a system using global positioning system (GPS) to determine the precise location of a object, person or other asset to which it is attached and to transmit this information using GSM modem.

This is followed by the system present in the car asking the user to enter correct password. If the user fails to enter the correct password in three trials ,a text message is sent to the owner's mobile with vehicle location using GPS. Further the connection to fuel injector of the car is deactivated so that unauthorized person cannot start the vehicle anyhow.

The proposed system provides two levels of security, password protection for the vehicle and remote ignition cutoff mechanism. GSM and GPS technologies are used for that purpose. GSM technology is used for intimating the owner.

This technique helps to find out the exact location of the accident and with the help of server an emergency vehicle can be sent to the exact location to reduce the human life loss. It also detects the behaviour of the driver through sensors whether he/she is drowsy or drunk, so that occurrence of accident can be prevented. The place of the vehicle identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM). This is more secured, reliable and low cost.

This project uses elementary theories of electronics and computer engineering in the design of a device to carry out the monumental task of security and is attempted to proffer a lasting solution through exploring the GSM technology coupled with some digital control techniques as possible remedy. The work is divided into two subsystems: the remote access link and the vehicle subsystems. The system can be controlled from anywhere in the world once there is GSM coverage. Instead of the embedded web server used by previous designs to gain access through internet, this present design employs the use of a GSM/GPRS modem (Modulator and Demodulator) module to gain access to the vehicle subsystems. For instance, when there is an intruder or unauthorized user into the vehicle, the system will immediately and automatically send out emergency warning signals to the user's phone, reporting the status of the car and preventing the car from being stolen.

Hyundai to Host Anti-Theft Software Upgrade Event

The Baltimore County Police Department, in partnership with Hyundai and neighboring law enforcement agencies, is partnering to provide anti-theft software upgrades to Hyundai owners with vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2022 with a turn-key ignition. In addition to the free upgrade, each owner will be offered a steering wheel lock as an extra layer of security.
The three-day event, scheduled from December 15 through December 17, will be held at M&T Bank Stadium in downtown Baltimore. During the event, Lot H will be transformed into a mobile service center where Hyundai owners with eligible vehicles can come and meet with a specially trained mobile service technician on-site. The software upgrade is expected to take less than twenty minutes to complete. A heated mobile lobby will be available on the premises to accommodate Hyundai owners while they wait.
“I urge all residents who own an eligible Hyundai to take advantage of this free software upgrade,” said Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough. “Earlier this year, the Baltimore County Police Department, in partnership with Hyundai, began to distribute free steering wheel locks to residents; providing the anti-theft software upgrade to residents is one more preventative anti-theft measure we can offer our community members to help protect their property."

Peoria Police partner with Mike Miller Hyundai for a free anti-theft upgrade

PEORIA Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Police Department and Mike Miller Hyundai in Peoria are collaborating to bring drivers a free anti-theft upgrade.
Nationally and locally, Hyundai cars have been targeted as easy car thefts due to a security flaw in the system.
From December 13th until December 20th, Mike Miller Hyundai will be offering free installation of the upgrade to eligible car owners.
Matt Briggs, Captain of Investigations at The Peoria Police Department, estimates roughly 14 cars are stolen per week in Peoria.
“Any of these vehicles that get stolen, we have to track down, locate, and try to get them back to owners, so this will just be one part in trying to solve our stolen car issue in the city,” said Briggs.
Derick Anderson with Mike Miller Hyundai said it’ll be a quick fix for those who need the update.
“Everything nowadays is based on computer systems, there is no ignition change itself, it is simply an update with the computer system. Drive on in, we’ll have three technicians set up on the drive. All you do is drive in, we check you in, they’ll do the update on the spot, the turn around time is around 20 to 25 minutes, and we’ll get you in and out,” said Anderson.
Even if you don’t drive a Hyundai, you too should always take measures to ensure the safety of your vehicle.
” Never leave your vehicle running unattended anywhere. Not in your driveway, not at the gas station, not in any public places, and obviously, this is that time of year when people like to warm their vehicles up. If the vehicle is locked, and you have the key fob and an automatic start that’s no problem, but if you go out to start your vehicle, leave your keys in your car, and want to unlock it with another key fob, someone will break that window and steal your car,” said Briggs.
Mike Miller Hyundai is located on Pioneer Parkway and is accepting walk-ins for the recall starting on Wednesday.
